Tool Validation Activity for the production of configuration data for vital equipment
Brief
Validate tools used to produce configuration data for vital equipment in a railway signalling system.
Project challenge
Define and perform the necessary tests to discover possible malfunctions of tools used to produce configuration data in order to validate the T3 tool according to EN 50128.
Solution
NIER analysed the requirements of the equipment to be configured and the configuration tool in order to assess their correct alignment. NIER then defined, performed and analysed the white-box and black-box tests for the T3 validation of the tool.
Execution phases
Analysis of the User Needs and the requirements of the device to be configured
Analysis and identification of safety problems, with the drafting of a Hazard Analysis
Verification of design documents produced by the client
Definition of the tests to be performed (white-box and black-box)
Execution and analysis of the tests performed
Drafting of the necessary documentation up to the drafting of the Tool Validation report
Achieved results
NIER’s work revealed inconsistencies, anomalies and security issues in the tool in a timely and effective manner, enabling the client to validate the T3 configuration tool.
