Development of a motorway traffic simulator
Brief
Design a simulation tool in Python for monitoring a stretch of motorway.
Project challenge
to implement a configurable software application that can identify, at any given moment, which vehicles are observed by a given monitoring device and which remain outside its field of view and are thus invisible.
Solution
NIER developed a simulation tool that displays results in graphical form and with data frames. The model takes a “snapshot” of the state of the monitored section at a given instant in time and outputs information on the visibility of vehicles for the various monitoring devices.
Execution phases
Implementation of the simulation scenario: characteristics of the monitored stretch, position of devices and vehicles on the road;
Implementation of the geometric model for the construction of shadow areas generated by individual vehicles;
Implementation of the calculation model for vehicle visibility in the monitored area;
Generation of data frames for storing output results and their graphical representation.
Achieved results
- Using the tool developed by NIER, the client can define any simulation scenario and configure its properties. For a given scenario, the simulation identifies the vehicles observed/not observed in the individual device’s field of view.
